Ancient Corinth was an important city-state of the ancient Peloponnese. He controlled an area that corresponded to the east of today’s prefecture of Corinthia and to the northeast of the prefecture of Argolis. It bordered on Sicyon to the west, the Megarians on the east, the Argives on the southwest and the Epidaurians on the south.

Ancient Corinth controlled the critical position of the Isthmus and was the most important commercial hub of the ancient world, until it was threatened by Athens. Corinth was considered the richest city in the ancient world
